For my career day I shadowed a baby photographer named Stacy. She created the company Lovely Baby in carlsbad. I showed up at 8 and immediately there was work to do. We had to put up backdrops, create the props and lay out costumes. For one person that’s a lot of work to do in one hour. And then the actual work began, a lot it was moving the baby back to the set and getting it’s attention so that he would cooperate. It was a lot of fun and oddly exhausting. Then there was the editing process where you go through all the pictures you don’t need, which was a lot! When I asked her about college and what helped her prepare, she said that she didn’t go to college. That surprised me because she’s a very high class photographer, she supplies the outfits, props and everything so all the client has to do is show up. Stacy said that going to photography seminars, finding online information, and asking a lot of questions in the field really helped her improve and start her business. Career day for me was a really cool experience and I learned a lot from Stacy, from editing techniques to how to start your own business.
