It was a lovely spring day on the Dolan farm, the pond was sparkling turquoise and the grass was lush and green as the cows roamed the property. Everywhere you looked, you could see seedlings germinating from the soil. The sun’s warmth touching everything in its path, including a blue red barn in the corner of the farm.
“Hey Ethan?” Grayson Dolan picked himself up off an old patio swing and walked over to his twin brother Ethan. His eyes glazed over as he gazed at the small barn in front of them. “Why are barns red?” Ethan gave his brother a quizzical look. “What kind of question is that?” Grayson walked over to the barn and placed a hand on it’s peeling paint. “Why are barns red? Why not blue barns, or yellow barns, or I don’t know magenta barns?” He glanced to his brother, looking for an answer. “Maybe so that you can spot it better, so that it stands out. You know, we should ask James, he might know.” Ethan whipped out his phone from his back pocket and tapped on it until a dialing sound filled the air. “Hey Sister, I wanted to ask if you know why barns are red?” “Because red pigment is cheaper to buy. Duh. Plus red is so good and fresh, it’s sister snatched.” Sister James explained succinctly. “Thanks Shistar!” The twins gave a friendly smile before ending the call. “Not what I was expecting, but I guess it’s a good enough reason.” Grayson glanced at the barn fondly. He had finally learned the truth.
